Direct part marking and code verification systems

Deliver a complete direct-part-marking process covering mark creation, handling, code verification and traceability records.

Application-led specification

Designed around the process that must work.

DPM performance is determined by the relationship between material, marking method, code construction, lighting and reader. Oxford Traceability treats these as one engineered process so the mark is both permanent and consistently readable.

What this deliversOne accountable project from permanent mark creation to verified production record.

Typical applications

Where it earns its place.

Automotive and aerospace components

Medical devices and precision assemblies

Electronics, tools and safety-critical parts

Anti-mix, build-record and lifecycle traceability

A complete project scope

From feasibility to a supported production system.

The precise work package is shaped around the application. These are the four areas we normally resolve.

01

Mark/read feasibility study

Establish the evidence needed to select and size the technology.

02

Code size, location and quality definition

Turn the proven application into a clear technical specification.

03

Part handling, fixture and reader design

Engineer safe, maintainable presentation and production control.

04

Result storage and system interface

Connect, commission and prove the agreed operating sequence.

Identification should close the loop.

Where the process demands it, the system can check that the correct identity was created, confirm it is readable and associate the result with the production event.

  • Presence and content checks
  • Barcode, RFID or DPM read-back
  • Reject, rework and exception handling
  • Result and audit-record capture
Frequently asked questions

Direct part marking: practical questions.

Every application is different, but these answers cover useful starting points.

What makes DPM codes difficult to read?

Low contrast, reflective or curved surfaces, inconsistent mark depth, small cells, contamination and uncontrolled lighting can all affect reading. The mark and reader should be developed together.

Can you verify DPM code quality?

Yes. Verification can assess the code against an agreed method and record the result, while simpler presence and content checks can be used where formal grading is not required.

Can each component receive a unique serial number?

Yes. Serials can be generated or supplied by another system, checked before marking, verified after marking and associated with process or inspection data.
